After seeing an article in a design trade magazine about Western designers who lived in Japan, and used the New Year's tradition of sending greeting cards (nengajo) to promote and have creative fun, I thought it would be something to try for myself. I liked that it came after New Year's Day for the Western calendar - and people get their card at a time when the seasonal energy and celebrations have fallen off. My greeting may not always expected; hopefully, the recipients gain something from my message coming a little out of the blue. Animals from the Chinese Zodiac are part of the twelve-year cycle that makes up the theme for each year.
